Ionizers release negatively and positively charged ions into the air, which attach to charged particulates, such as floating dust, allergens, bacteria, dirt, or other contaminants. These now neutral particles are no longer attracted to surfaces. The free ions also find charged surfaces which are then brought to a neutral charge so they do not attract particles.
